California Dreamin'

Building on a theme, Ezra Klein does some heavy lifting worthy of close consideration. Paul Krugman will say similar things at the American Economic Association meeting in Atlanta January 4, 2010. We live in a social and economic climate that unfolds at nearly the speed of light. This miracle of existence is regulated and nurtured by a 19th century bureaucracy with very provincial interests. Fear of systemic failure is secondary to fear of personal failure. This should, in an ideal model, provide for systemic success, if personal and systemic success are symmetric. The perceived asymmetry inherent in public service results in extremely poor economic and social policies. The 21st century is still a ways off.

Thank You, Tricky Dick

The War on Drugs was the prohibition campaign undertaken by the United States government, with the assistance of participating countries, intended to both define and reduce the illegal drug trade.
The term was first used by President Richard Nixon in 1969.

If This is victory, we have rejected The Wars mandate ("to...reduce the illegal drug trade") and embraced Sherman's Scorched Earth Policy. This misguided economic war has not weakened demand or significantly diminished supply. A league of financial terrorist organizations has been enabled and capitalized. New attitudes toward drug legalization may bend the yield curve temporarily for these organizations, but their lack of moral rectitude allows for a swift transformation of the business model. Violence will be the enduring asset these terrorists attempt to exploit. This is but one of the collateral effects of Nixon's war.

The Big Con...(Game)

Time got it wrong. Ben Bernanke is Not Man Of The Year. The consensus grows. The 200x's have constituted more than a Japanese type "lost" decade. Frank Rich makes the case for Tiger Woods as our Man Of The Decade. I personally would have opted for someone in a non-contact sport, but Rummy can't be found.

Higher Education

RICO was designed just for gangsters like Summers and Bernanke. Even Harvard wasn't immune to their deceit.

The Next Act...

It begins. These people are financial gangsters. We should RICO them.

The New Age Of Healthcare

Mike Lupica gets it and gets it right. The American economy, healthcare reform, immigration reform, foreign policy (sorry Hil), environmental triage, and US self respect have been usurped by the grifters. Throw the Bastards out! Kudos to Willie. When will we listen?
